Fast discharging

I purchased the flashlight mainly for the rechargeable battery. The flashlight is bright, so far so good. But the battery discharges immensely fast (1 week with daily 30min use vs husband's flashlight 6 weeks on the same battery use). Also, why does this flashlight illuminates a blue LED at the rear end when the flashlight is on?
