I have used several brands of calcite. Most gave trouble over time when their granules got sticky,, clumped together, and gradually blocked water flow through the calcite tank. I have found that the granules in this brand remain free and I no longer have trouble with my tank getting clogged. Also, this product is unusually clean.
But I do have two complaints. First, it is quite dusty. When pouring the granules into the tank, I have to wear a filter mask to avoid choking on the dust cloud. This dust is very fine and causes the water to become foggy for about a day when the calcite is added until the dust is washed out. This fogging occurs even though I have a 5 micron filter on the system.
Secondly, I consider the price to be unreasonably high. After all, this is just natural limestone. which is plentiful, readily available, and cheap. So why should it cost over $110 for just 50 pounds of the stuff?
