Floats, but under the surface

I wanted to use these as feeding portals, but the food will spread over it as the water still goes over the product. My water lettuce grows over it. I end up seeing these get thrown into the middle of my floater plant roots, making them a little useless. I thought I just needed to add floater plants to have them work but even then it is not optimal.

I absolutely love them. It's so nice and easy to feed my fish. Also a plus cause I am a huge Naruto fan.
