For centuries, tea has been pressed into cakes for easy transport. Tea knives were developed to break apart the cakes for consumption. You hold the cake with one hand and pry at the edge with the tea knife in the other hand. There is an inherent risk to this process. Tea knives are often unnecessarily sharp and difficult to control. The Copper Bamboo Root Tea Knife is a thoughtfully designed tea knife. It has a point that can be used to pry apart a tea cake but it is not unnecessarily sharp. It is a cast piece that even though it is a small knife, it has enough weight to be easily held and controlled. I think this is easily the best designed tea knife I have found to date.

This tea knife is really well suited for its purpose. A lot of tea knives are sharp and unnecessarily dangerous to use. A tea knife is used to pry apart or separate a pressed tea cake. It needs a small flat tip that can be inserted into a tea cake. The tip doesn’t need to be cutting sharp but you do need to be able to control the tea knife effectively. This tea knife is a about Six inches long but has a nice shape and weight so that it is easy to control. I haven’t found a better tea knife than this one but it could have been made better.
