Deccie Must Die (MCM Investigations 2) – Audiobook Special Edition

Such a fun listen, beautifully narrated. enjoyable humour

I enjoyed this one, though it is not my favourite thus far. I am not quite sure why that was: I can see the author loves Deccie, but I don't feel the same affection for this character without Bunny to ride herd on him. I find the writing sniggeringly funny (I read on my iPod in bed and giggle myself to sleep. It drives my husband batshit crazy!). I love the twisty turny plots and the unexpected nature of the segues. I like that - akin to Richard Osman - no character is irredeemable. All characters contain flaws and virtues, which makes them all so much more realistic. I enjoyed Brigit and Phil, and the official detectives, but the lack of Paul (my favourite character) left it a wee bit flat for me. That isn't stopping me eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series, though. Bring it on Mr McDonnell!

Deccie the adult, sort of!

After Bunny, Deccie is my favourite, then Paul. I think Deccie's charm has a lot to do with his character but also the voice the narrator uses for Deccie is so perfect. When I discovered Deccie had his 'own story' I was excited to hear it. But then the title - Deccie Must Die - not on my watch. I really enjoyed this book and I feel I must apologise to the neighbours for the 'laugh out loud' disturbances, I’ll add that to my 'to do' list. I can’t remember how I first 'found' Caimh McDonnell's books but I am so happy I did. The author is a comedic genius who has the ability to have an actual story as well as the comedy in his books; what more could you ask for? I won’t stop till I have all the books, hopefully all are available in audio format, but if not I’ll read the paper version. As I read the book(s) I will be doing so in the style of the narrator. If you don’t know of the hurling loving Bunny then you probably have FOMO but don’t know it, yet. I highly recommend that you try just the one book and if you don’t become a fan for life I’ll buy a hat and eat it.
