Android auto on a budget

Took a long time to arrive. Directions in the package are weak. Customer support was prompt. Although there is a time delay related to the time differences from the east coast to the west coast slash china. Bottom line is that it works and I am satisfied and it is a whole lot cheaper than spending over a thousand dollars to buy a new radio.

Pleased with Functionality

My Tundra is nine years old, so getting CarPlay to work with the OEM system is quite remarkable. This unit is not perfect, but it does the trick and I would gladly purchase another one if I needed it. The big thing is that you have to keep expectations reasonable. My primary motivation was to bypass the very limited AI capabilities of my truck’s voice command system and to gain access to updated map guidance systems. This unit does both of those quite capably. If you have a premium JBL system, in the settings you can direct all audio through the OEM sound, so you don’t have to lose audio quality. It did take quite a while for the truck to pair with this unit, but after numerous tries it finally did. I recently did lose connectivity briefly, but it paired back up again on its own. I cannot really tell if the direct usb connection is doing anything. I had initially hoped to avoid bluetooth and just go with the direct usb connection, but nothing seemed to happen until I did the usb pairing. Bottom line, I’d be more on the fence if this cost several hundred dollars more, but at the sub $200 price point I’m satisfied.
