Nice pads overall, good for general protection. Pad itself is probably 3/8"-1/2" thick gel foam.

Size up. Medium fit very snug on a 9 year old girl

Watch sizing but work great

Sizing is a bit tricky and didn't follow the measurements (ended up needing a large for my skinny 8 year old), but now that we have the right sizing they work great and he loves them.
