Quick Fold Cane

I am so happy with this cane. The rubbery tips do not slip on smooth floors. And I love the quick transition to and from a folded position. No more leaning against a wall only to have it fall down and be in rhe way. Someone gave me a folding cane before, but it made noise when walking and had to be tightened a lot. This cane when in use is strong and sturdy. The tios and cane privde a qiuet walk. The magnetic close is brilliant. Thats what got my attention.

Sturdy and neutral in color. The only complaint i have is the magnet should be stronger, it pulls apart easily.

After one day of using this cane, I had a problem. . . it would NOT fold! I sent an email and received a very prompt response. (Is 30 minutes "prompt"?). Apparently, there have been some concerns with the particular color I had chosen, and the 'pull and fold' technique did not always work. The response to my inquiry came from the CEO, of all people, and he suggested trying WD-40 on the joints (if we could get them apart). This made me feel a bit foolish, as every household usually has two reliable "tools". . . duct tape to keep something together, and WD-40 to get it apart! After an epic session of 'tug-o-war' (well, "epic" for a pair of senior citizens), we used the suggested spray on each of the joints. Voila!!! Easy-peasy folding now. I also prefer utilizing the "X" foot when using the cane. most of the time. While I can't trust all floor surfaces to be level enough to allow that 'foot' to hold the cane upright, I CAN trust my own foot to step on an arm of the "X" while I use both hands to do something important. . . like digging in a pocket or a purse, or using my phone. The magnets that hold the cane folded are strong enough to hold the cane closed, if it is stationary and horizontal (on a chair seat, for example). If you try to carry it folded while holding the cane by the handle or carrying strap, it will snap to its full length. It is what it is designed to do, after all. There is one additional 'caveat', as much as I love this cane. I am approximately 5'3". (I started out taller, but gravity is winning lately. ) Because of the necessary positioning of the folding joints, this cane cannot be adjusted to accommodate anyone shorter than that, in my opinion. My "C-handle" canes will be able to cater to my shorter-self if Mother Nature keeps picking on me. Are Michael Graves Design canes worth the price? I certainly don't enjoy the need to use a cane, and my husband accuses me of being a "cheapskate". But, if I lost my folding cane, I would be willing to pay twice the current price to replace it.
