A beautiful rendering of a good shepherd who had the "smell of the sheep." It captures Rother as a priest bestowing a blessing, vestments with the symbol of his devotion to the Mother of God, and a pastoral staff symbolizing his shepherding ministry which is blooming new life as a symbol of the growth of the faith he nourished among his people with its twin bands of gold (symbol of eternal life0 and red(symbol of his martyrdom as a witness to Christ). I could not be more pleased with it! It hangs in my chapel beneath the relic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton who lived and worked in Emmetsburg, Maryland where the future Fr. Rother completed his seminary formation.
