Lovely cosy base layer
This is my third purchase of Fern merino base layers, as I love my first two so much, and I decided to try this slightly different design. It’s not easy to see the pattern in the photos, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sides of the body, and the material in the v-shape at the neck (like on a sweatshirt), and the elbows, are made from a wider, looser, slightly thicker knit. This difference in the material in those sections makes them very slightly more see-through, although it’s hardly noticeable unless stretched. I would be more conscious of my choice of bra colour underneath if I were to wear this top on its own. I have carefully removed the white care label sewn into the side for this reason, as I felt it was just visible under the grey, but I often tend to remove them anyway.
This top is perfect layered under another, like the Fern Stripe base layer, for additional warmth in very cold weather.
I got mine on a discount offer, and I’m delighted with the quality, the flattering shape, the design, the snug fit (I’m a size 10-12, and the small is perfect for me), the warmth, and the charcoal colour is lovely. I would happily buy more of these, especially when on offer, but hopefully, I won’t have to, as they look like they should last a long time. I can chuck my cheap synthetic ones out now that I have upgraded to these.
A happy customer!
