Both trees were just chopped clean off, just to make them fit the itsy bitsy box they were shoved into. It still wasnt enough, because both trees are crushed on top since the box was so small. It wasn't free shipping. Why do you have to do that to perfectly nice trees?
Then, the Chinese elm is straight as a rail, and too thick to bend now, as well, it has 2 big scars on the trunk. They look like the tree wasn't given any cut paste after removing some major branches. But, being a cork bark it will eventually blend in and give it character.
They're healthy and I'm sure they will survive, but I really have not experienced this kind of thing from you before. My trees from you have always been full sized, not chopped, and then, they've always either previously been wired or are thin enough still for me to bend them.
Although, I do have to say that the oak is pretty awesomely bent and structured. Anything above the cut pount was probably not something I wanted anyway.

I ordered 5 cork bark elm starters. All arrived healthy. They are going into the ground for a few years to hopefully become beautiful bonsai in a decade or so lol
