De Havilland LITE Pant

Pretty mid on these pants. Initial impression is so so, some unique features but overall package I struggle to justify the price. Came out of the factory bag with multiple loose threads needing to be trimed indicating lack of attention to detail on finishing. I’m not a fan of the full length side zippers, they stiffen the material and reduce knee articulation and I’ll end wearing lighter pants in warmer weather. I dont wear kneepads so having 3 layers of material to hold them reduces breathability in the knees. The adjustable zipper and belt is alright, better than most systems but I do prefer an arcade belt still for comfort. I do like the pocket layout and ability to easily remove the pull string from the lower side zippers. I do wish though that the lower zipper for the side vents had a garage like the top one does. I’ll keep the pants as shipping back is not likely worth the price. I would say for the price I would expect a bit more refinement in design and function.

Purpose Driven Pants

These are advertised as being optimized for moving in the backcountry under pack and they fill that role very well. I backpacked into the Uintas and summited a 13er and the little details made a big difference. The low profile, built in belt with no snap makes the pants comfortable under a pack. The large side zips on the leg help to regulate temp and makes them very breathable when needed. The material is tough but has tons of stretch so mobility isn't hindered at all. The pocket layout is nice and I like the option for knee pads. The athletic fit is spot on for me, they fit my waist and legs. I have well muscled legs and many brands either fit my waist but the legs are way too tight or the legs are good but the waist is way too big. These just fit. Like everything else I have from stone glacier, these were designed by people who know from experience what needs to be there, don't add gimmicks, and focus on quality.
