In Step was another wonderful return to Jay Hogan's small-town world. What I continue to love most about this series is how interconnected everything feels. The romance is always at the heart of the story, but it never exists in isolation. Family, friendship, community, and shared history all play an important role, making the characters and their relationships feel real and deeply rooted. One of my favorite things about this book was that I genuinely didn't know how the story would unfold. The emotional journey was beautifully developed, and until quite late in the book I wasn't entirely sure how everything would come together. Those are the romances I enjoy most—the ones that keep me invested rather than feeling predictable. I also loved seeing familiar faces from Off Balance and On Board. Jay Hogan has created a community that feels alive. Characters don't disappear when their book ends; they continue to grow, support one another, and remain part of the world. That sense of belonging and connection always gets me every time. The combination of dance, small-town life, and a wonderfully supportive community worked beautifully for me. Add in the emotional depth, strong relationships, and plenty of heart, and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable read. A special mention goes to Gary Furlong, whose narration elevated an already wonderful story. His warm Australian accent, perfect comedic timing, and ability to deliver both emotional moments and playful banter made the audiobook impossible to resist. I found myself switching between reading and listening, and honestly enjoyed every minute of it. While Off Balance remains my favorite of the series so far, In Step delivered exactly what I've come to love about Jay Hogan's writing: warmth, emotion, compelling relationships, and characters I genuinely cared about.
