Improve your skills to both escape and attack from the back position
This instructional covers a range of material related to the back position as a defender and also as an attacker. In my opinion the organisation of the instructional is not optimal, as chapters on defending and attacking are mixed and some related content are in different volumes. The instructional also includes chapters which are described as bonus chapters and for some of these chapters largely re-covering material that has previously been covered within the instructional, which I don’t mind as it re-enforces the material. The instructional has a total runtime of 2 hours and 56 minutes. Video (quality including range and focus) and sound are good with no issues to be concerned about. The instructional appears to have been filmed with a fixed camera. The available previews are consistent with the whole instructional. Henry Atkins clearly demonstrates the techniques with repetition, including providing easily understandable instructions. As with the other Henry Atkins instructionals that I have purchased he provides a relevant and useful discussion around each technique. One thing, in my opinion that makes a Henry Atkins instructional really worthwhile are the little details provided to make the technique work reliably and also often he provides a different approach to solving a problem. In summary, I found the content and presentation engaging. The instructional’s price is eye watering. I would recommend buying this instructional if you wish to improve your back techniques, but perhaps choose to do so when it is possible to take advantage of a daily deal opportunity or a site wide sale. My star rating is for the quality and content and excludes any consideration of the standard price. The next section of the review gives an overview of the content of this instructional, if this information interests you. Volume 1 covers defending the opponent’s attempt to attack your neck and escape the back control from a sitting position (i.e., seatbelt control with hooks in). Volume 2 covers preventing the opponent mounting you when you have just escaped from a sitting back control position; how to position yourself in a sitting back control position to make it more difficult for your opponent to effectively control you; foot locks when your opponent crosses their feet or when they are using a body lock triangle; how to escape the body lock triangle; and changing the focus from defending to now attacking from the back (sitting position) to use both of your arms, rather than using the seatbelt grip to more effectively attack the opponent’s neck. Volume 3 covers escaping back control when you are on all fours and in situations where the opponent has forced you flat; again, changing focus from defending the back to attacking from the back, how to use your legs to control the opponent and free your arms for attack from both a sitting position and also when you have their back and your back is on the mats (i.e. they are on top of you, but you control their back); a bonus chapter on escaping the body lock; and the final two chapters cover attacking using the rear naked choke. Volume 4 covers a simplified bow and arrow choke; how to flatten the opponent in the situation where you are on their back and they are on all fours; following on from the previous position how to access the opponent’s neck when they are flat; how to access the opponent’s back starting from the mount position and from the closed guard; as a defender from the sitting position how to reliably fall to the underhook side; how to escape the single leg hook control; and how to escape if the opponent has a kimura grip when they are on your back or have you in side control.
