Love it until the gears strip out (when used with arm rest)

This is my 2nd wooden face cradle base. I have the arm rest that attaches to this base and if a client inadvertently puts any weight on the arm rest other then just resting their arms on it, the plastic gears will give way a bit & eventually the gears strip out. Then it no longer holds tight and can not be trusted to place client's face on it. I wish there was a way to remedy this. I always tell clients to slide down BEFORE turning over but once in awhile they forget. This is the only problem I have with this base.
