Dissappointing result on a more textured leather

I wasn’t thrilled with the matte 4 product. I loved the paint on the leather bag I was restoring but then the matte finish made it so dull I needed to paint over again with color to get some depth back in and a bit of the feel of the leather itself. Now it looks better but a little too “painted”. I am a professional artist, understand color and paint application very well btw. But I know you sell a lot for sneaker painting and maybe this is the best application for the Matte 4 finish product?

All of the Angelus 4-coat work as described and are true to spec. I have only used them on leather so far and the flexibility after application is great, no cracking or pealing, just follow instructions.
