This is a great back up rod for me. The action on it isn’t top notch but it will work in a pinch. As for the fly shop that sold it to me, they have been so incredible to buy from. Very different than the traditional fly fishing I’m used to. But I caught some great fish my first day out with this. And I caught them at a depth I could not have reached with my other rod.

Completely new to this style of fishing, so I can't compare this setup to others. What I can say is that this combo offers an easy way to try tight line nymphing at a reasonable price point. Compared to buying the pieces separately, they pretty much give you the rod for free. This gear plus a lot of YouTube has allowed me to pull a bunch of (so far mostly small) fish out of pockets I otherwise would have walked right past.
