It has a strong, earthy smell, but that is to be expected. That's not to say that it smells bad, though! And I find that once the oil is actually on your hair, the smell dies down pretty quickly. I heard that castor oil is really good at sealing in moisture for high porosity hair; if you don't know what having high porosity hair means, it is when your hair can easily receive hydration (aka water), but it just as easily loses that hydration (aka it gets dry extremely fast). I have struggled with keeping my hair moisturized for YEARS as a result, and this oil is so good at making sure my hair retains hydration, therefore promoting length retention. To be clear, I am not suggesting this oil directly grows your hair, but rather indirectly grows it; your hair will grow regardless, however using this oil allows your hair to maintain moisture, preventing it from becoming dry, brittle, and weak, (things that cause breakage) and therefore promotes length retention, allowing you to see those inches gradually each month! I love this oil and I swear by it because I actually managed to retain length and see hair growth. I'm not sure if it will have the same effects for low porosity hair because I heard that lighter oils are more suitable for that hair type, but nonetheless, this is a GREAT product! I will definitely buy this again and again.
