Disappointed so far
I was told it could take awhile for the birds to use this feeder. We even bought the perch assembly. Not one bird in our wooded back yard. We even left our other feeders empty. We are feeling like we wasted $100.

Helps Keep the Bully Birds at Bay
I've only had this barrier guard feeder up for 24 hours but it's already been a big hit with the smaller birds in my backyard. I previously hung seed cylinders, which would last 3-4 weeks with regular visits from woodpeckers and smaller birds. But once the family of cardinals, bluejays, and red-winged blackbirds discovered it, a 1.5-2lb seed cylinder was done in less than a week. In an attempt to make the seed cylinders last longer, I put up this barrier guard feeder (with the suet cage swapped for the Erva seed cylinder rod) last night. The small birds and woodpeckers were hopping in it in less than 12 hours. The cardinals are still trying to figure out how to get in it, along with the occasional bluejay. But they also happily drop below the feeder for the bits the woodpeckers drop. Starlings, blackbirds, and other nuisance birds have already moved on to the neighbor's loose seed feeder. Which is a win for me.

A Plus for the Little Birds
Definitely works to keep out the starlings and grackles that were gobbling up our suet cakes at an extraordinary rate. So far, after 2 weeks, the small woodpeckers are loving it so we're quite happy with our purchase. I wish the larger woodpeckers like the redbelly could enjoy it too but we still have other feeders for them. This definitely does what it is designed to do.
