Excellent quality with service to match

We fabricated a new hinged patio door, and wanted to change our locking system. We had a traditional deadbolt style with key locking knob on the outside and thumb lock on the inside. We felt that our safety was compromised, because it was so easy for an intruder to break the glass, reach in, open the lock and enter the home.Key-only locks on the inside can be a pain, having to fish for a key to open the door every time you want to go outside (or, like many of us do, leaving a key in the door at all times to make it more convenient but then you’re right back at the same issues you have with a thumb lock…). We have a keypad on our front door and really love the convenience, and got to thinking one would be great on the new patio door - one outside and one inside. Good concept, hard to find, especially a high quality set. Then I came across Harney’s in my searches. Seemed to fit the bill perfectly. It was very highly rated, and reasonably priced for the workmanship. I got it delivered, and my door makers installed it. They were also very impressed with the quality. Even though it is often used for commercial use, it doesn’t take up any more space than a combination of deadbolt with knob and key lock. We are extremely happy with it, and feel so much safer with it installed now. Five stars!

Great build, but a bit confusing

This lock is built for commercial use, but it was hard to tell when ordering. If you already have a residential cutout on the door, a little adjustment in drilled holes may be required. The most inconvenient issue is that the lock only comes with a commercial latch / spindle set that will not fit if the cutout is residential. I found that out only after I received the lock. I had to order a residential latch / spindle, pay for separate shipping and wait for a few days when the old lock had already been removed. Harney, why can’t you prompt the customer about the choice of residential vs. commercial on your website (like asking keyed alike or keyed differently? Better yet, why can’t you make a universal latch (with two insertion points) like many locks on the market?
