Tall Dark and Handsome

PDLN1, now part of Roja's "archive collection", is a dark, rich, spicy ambery accord that is quite addictive. On my skin it has great projection and sillage. While it's not a fragrance I'd necessarily choose in summer, for the office, or when travelling on a plane, it's perfect for fall and winter and/or special occasions.

I’ve been wearing PDLN 1 quite a bit lately, and there’s something about it that keeps pulling me back. It opens with a clean burst of bergamot that feels almost bright against the darkness that follows. On my skin, the heart quickly takes over — warm clove and saffron, wrapped in rich resins and woods. The labdanum and cistus give it this deep, leathery warmth that feels alive, while the guaiac, cedar, and vetiver add a quiet, earthy backbone. It’s not sweet in an obvious way, but there’s a smooth, balsamic quality that starts to bloom as it settles. What I love most is how it evolves on me. After a couple of hours, that subtle animalic edge — the castoreum and civet — comes through in the most intimate way. It’s not dirty or loud; it’s magnetic and slightly addictive. Paired with the tolu balsam, benzoin, and tonka, it becomes something warm, smoky, and deeply personal. I find myself catching its scent on my wrist throughout the evening and feeling strangely comforted by it. This fragrance has presence without trying too hard. It lingers close to the skin yet projects enough that I notice it in the air around me hours later. It makes me feel quietly confident — like I’m carrying something a little mysterious and powerful with me. PDLN 1 has become one of those rare scents that feels like it was made for certain moments and certain moods. It’s not about standing out in a crowd — it’s about the feeling it gives me when I wear it. And that feeling is hard to replace.

A bomb for nights out, with confidence

This is stunning and honestly hard to describe. To my nose, I would say there is a whisky note that makes it a bomb, so it actually requires confidence to pull off, but that’s really what I like about it. It’s such a shame that it has been discontinued, I’m seriously thinking about picking up a backup bottle.
