South East Bus Memories in Colour

Those were the days……

Based on the south coast mainly between Kent and Hampshire this trawl of bus memories took me back along all those Southdown routes of yesteryear. Eyeing those luxury looking East Kent coaches, taking the Southdown coach from coast to London….where have all the years gone?

Failed memory

The picture choice and picture quality is excellent making for a very satisfying browse. However, for a title to purport to cover (geographically) the SE of England, and beginning in Southampton and Fareham, the omission of the Isle of Wight is astonishing. Southern Vectis is a much loved operator amongst enthusiasts but the island was also home to a plethora of independent operators who maintained pristine coach fleets for the busy summer season. I would have loved to see photos of Moss Motor Tours, Shotters, Crinages, Fountain Coaches, Paul’s, etc., featured in these pages. They would be worthy of a title all of their own. Moss had a most attractive two-tone blue livery and had a rare Commer TS3 with Yeates bodywork. This was a very interesting coach that produced a throaty rasp under acceleration
