Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI Shell Pink w/Matching Headcap & 3-Ply Parchment Pickguard

Great instrument

Like a lot of people, I started looking for a BassVI after the "Get Back" documentary. Saw the she pink here and loved the color, so I preordered (didn't hurt that my wife loves the color pink). The bass arrived a few weeks earlier than expected, and I couldn't be much happier. I had read that these instruments require some work before being made truly playable, so I was expecting to put on new strings, a bridge, complete set up, etc. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The set up was superb - no issues whatsoever! Sounded and played great right out of the box, which has to be at least partially due to the excellent CME setup! CME did a great job on this - fantastic set up, sounds great, and looks gorgeous! Highly recommend!

Pleasantly surprised

I ordered the Shell Pink Squire VI last February while I was recovering from knee surgery and probably under the influence of pain medication. It was an impulse buy. It was a little more than I ever imagined paying for a Squire and then having to wait 6 months for it seemed kind of insane. This is the first instrument I’ve bought from CME. A few months ago I got an email from one of the associates there saying the price of the guitar dropped $50 and they automatically refunded me that amount. I probably wouldn’t have noticed if they just lowered the price and didn’t refund me, so that was nice they did that. Originally they said it was expected to arrive in October and I was good with that, but then I got an email earlier this week that it was on the way. I got shipping updates from both CME and UPS, which was nice and a little unexpected. When the guitar arrived it was packed really well. This was a concern because it doesn’t come with a case or gig bag. It was double boxed and the factory box was resealed which is good to know that CME inspected it (and I’m guessing did some setup on it because the setup is pretty good). For the guitar itself, the construction, fit and finish seems really good for the price point. I’ve bought much more expensive guitars that were not as nice as this out of the box. It’s not perfect by any means. The frets are a little scratchy and there is a little bit of fret buzz on some of the strings. I also see the glue they used on the frets seeped a little bit onto the fretboard, but all minor issues at this price point. All the electronics work as advertised. This is the only Bass VI I’ve ever played so I can’t compare it tone-wise with any other similar model. I played it through my Bassman and Princeton Reverb and I think it sounds better through the Princeton. It sounds really cool through my Boss CE-2 chorus pedal. I really don’t like the vintage style tuners it comes with. I do have to say though that after a few days with the guitar, the tuning stability is just as good as any of my other American-made guitars. The tremolo doesn’t have a lot of response, so it doesn’t really take it out of tune too bad when you use it. It’s just for a light warble effect, like a bigsby. Overall, for what I paid for this guitar (or is it a bass?), I feel it is definitely worth the money. Usually I buy more expensive guitars and feel a little underwhelmed for the money I spent so this is a pleasant surprise. This is much nicer than some of the other “budget” import models I’ve played. I’m not sure if CME did a professional setup on the guitar. They provided a QC check card that is hand filled out, but they didn’t specify that they did any type of setup. Still pretty cool that they provided that for an instrument at this price when they sell such high-end custom shop and vintage stuff to big time clients. The experience buying online through CME was better that buying from the other online guitar retailers. So I will definitely buy from CME again, especially if I ever get in a position to pull the trigger on one of my dream guitars. If you’re thinking about getting this Squire IV in Shell Pink, I will tell you that you’re going to get a great instrument for the price and I would be surprised if you have anything other than a positive experience from CME.
