2nd try's a charm
from previous experience I ordered this new shell and screen. looked good but apparently the small ribbon was damaged during installation, so I ended up investing and ordering a 2nd. Didn't help the instruction link on this page is DEAD, so had to do additional research from videos and other builds. Just finished this complicated repair for the 2nd time after so much trouble-shooting the first go-around. Not a fan of the color changes or tint, keep setting it off by accident whenever I touch the back bezel or screen. I would recommend re-reading everything several times if you motivated to try it. not much soldering involved, but it's more advanced and if you haven't taken an SP apart before you'll make mistakes. Hope to update after some time to see how it holds up. the AV out to the TV is cool and thankfully works without issue.

The best IPS option IMO
The FunnyPlaying kits are brighter but also tend to pull more power overall and require a seperate board to provide a TV out function. With this at $10 more than the FunnyPlaying kit (and $50 for the HDMI out kit) you can buy an AV converter for $10-20 and save a good bit of money while using less power. Install was easy. The only issue I ran into was the IPS modified shells do not close completely with this kit and may require (very little) trimming with a craft knife.

A tough mod for sure
SPs are notoriously tricky to begin with but I ended up losing a node on my ribbon cable during the installation attempt. I’ve ordered a replacement so hopefully second time is a charm.
