The set that sold me on regional horror archaeology 😁
Home Grown Horrors: Volume One is exactly why I love this line. Beyond Dream’s Door is the most ambitious of the three for me — surreal nightmares, monsters, gore, and that homemade “we’re going to pull this off somehow” energy. Winterbeast is pure outsider-art insanity with stop-motion creatures, weird dialogue, and homemade effects that make it impossible to forget. Then Fatal Exam gives you a long, scrappy haunted-house/slasher hybrid that eventually goes full slice-and-dice. None of these are polished studio horror, and that’s the whole appeal. They feel local, handmade, ambitious, and completely removed from Hollywood. Vinegar Syndrome also went way beyond what these movies probably ever expected, restoring the films from their original 16mm/Super 8 elements and loading the discs with commentaries, making-of material, deleted scenes, alternate footage, and more. Weird monsters, regional slashers, ridiculous ambition, and a ton of preservation work. This set basically defines what I want boutique physical media to be. Easy 5/5. 😁

ABSOLUTE BLAST
This set went into the cart specifically because I wanted Winterbeast, which is *exactly* the kind of bizarre regional horror I get genuinely excited about owning and brought me to VinSyn in the first place. The sturdy box and wonderfully lurid artwork make the whole package feel substantial on the shelf, and getting two more regional horror oddities alongside it just makes it an even better little time capsule.
