MRK1 - Magnetic Webcam Light

Only issue is that I had to buy a new one because the one I purchased 6 years ago no longer works. On the other hand, I paid more than $100 on Kickstarter for the original, and $39 for the New one!

Good Light Quality, Poor Monitor Mount and Control

While I am enjoying the quality of light the MRK1 produces, the monitor mounts with their thin 3M adhesive pads leave much to be desired. I have a Dell 42" 5K curved monitor. This means the back of the monitor is curved as well. The adhesive pads for the monitor mounts are not thick enough to fully adhere to the monitor. In fact, only two 1/4" contact patches are made. This means the lights droop and eventually (most of the time in the middle of the night) fall off the monitor and crash to the floor. I've found that using two 3M Command medium picture hanging strips (velcro) on each mount, with two matching strips on where each mount will be placed on the monitor does an excellent job of keeping things in place. The other issue with the design is there are only physical controls (no control via USB or Bluetooth) and the controls are not orientation-aware. This means the color controls on the left side of my monitor are at the bottom and intensity controls at the top, and on the right side the color controls are at the top with the intensity controls at the bottom. Could have added an orientation sensor and a microcontroller to keep the control buttons consistent regardless of mounting orientation, or provide USB or Bluetooth control capability. Perhaps in the MRK2. Overall, the product is decent once you figure out the tweaks required to keep them from falling off your monitor and remember the location of the buttons on the back of the units.
