Lamson Purist 8'9" 3-Weight Fly Rod
Unlike the 5-weight, which I bought on the overwhelming quality of the “feel” noted in my previous review, the 8'9" 3-weight is the rod I actually needed for an upcoming small-water dry fly trip. This rod loads effortlessly at short range and provides constant, precise feedback. The progressive action allows excellent loop control with very little line out, making accurate, delicate presentations feel natural rather than forced. The tip is supple without being vague, the mid-section tracks cleanly, and the butt provides just enough authority to maintain structure and control across a surprisingly wide range of casting distances and conditions. I’ve been deliberately reducing my gear over the past few years, moving toward a more minimalist approach and away from maintaining a specialized arsenal. This rod makes that possible. Its versatility and control allow it to replace three different 3-weights I previously kept to cover varying conditions. One rod that performs this completely removes the need for compromise or redundancy. What stands out most is the consistency. There are no dead spots, no disconnect. The rod simply responds predictably and does exactly what you ask. It is purpose-built for technical dry fly fishing, and it fulfills that role completely.

My new 5 Weight workhorse
After several years of use I added a Lamson reel to my old TFO that I really liked so when it came time to look for a new 5 wt I picked up a Purest and headed for the North Fork of the C'DA. Spent over 8 hours fishing a wide range of flies, including hoppers (w/ a dropper) to very small dries.I didn't want to come off the river and had my best day on this river in years! It's a great rod that I look forward to fishing for years to come. I'd definitely recommend it.

Best Fly Rod I have owned
I purchased a Purist 9' 4 wt a little while back and finally had a chance to use it recently. I was on a little creek at snow line that was crystal clear and spooky. One strike and your out type of fishishing. This rod is awesome, pin point accuracy, a joy to cast! I have been fishing with a fly rod in my hands for 61 years. Although, lots of worm dipping as a kid! There are several quality fly rods in my closet and now they will remain there. Many thanks to Waterworks Lamson for building a quality product.
