アメリカ出身の画家。 プレシジョニズムに属する画家で、キュビズムのような抽象性で建築物や独特な質感の静物を多く描きました。 デムスの作品の中で特に著名な「I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold（私は金のNo.5を見た）」は友人のウィリアム・カルロス・ウィリアムズの詩『The Great Figure』からインスピレーションを得て制作されました。
