"Into the Jaws of Death" by Robert Lyman
Having read Brigadier Lucas Phillips' "The Greatest Raid of All" about the March 1942 attack on St Nazaire some years ago, I was familiar with many of the details of the raid. Robert Lyman gives much space to the exceptional training that the commandos endured, which serves to increase the tension of the story leading up to its climax. His book also has a 10 page index, which Lucas Phillips' lacks and also a very helpful list of dramatis personae, including Germans, at the beginning. He has clearly done a great deal of research and includes his sources and a bibliography. I found it an enthralling account of a heroic event. At £2.99 it is the bargain of the year!
