Description
Chypre-Siam is a joyful middle finger to IFRA. Unrepentedly teeming with enough oakmoss to make an EU official faint, this is a fragrance that lays lie to the notion that they ‘just don’t make ‘em like they used to anymore.’ With Chypre-Sia...

Comparison to Derby
Right away I get a leather smell that’s similar to Guerlain Derby. Spices and oakmoss are readily apparent. Now this is less synthetic than the reformulated Derby which can oscillate between hairspray and what it wants to be, a leather forest. The Jasmine and Ylang-Ylang are not as front and center as the leather, spices and oakmoss, but they are good and give it an outdoors quality and some powder on the drydown with benzoin to sweeten it up, but it’s still a very dry fragrance. If there’s civet it’s more of the clean musk variety. This veers more into a vintage Guerlain powder fragrance and smells nostalgic, whereas Derby has a stronger leather and green woods. If you want a stronger leather go Derby. If you want more of that classic Guerlain-ade with more authentic notes, then go Chypre-Siam.

It's okay
I have a bottle pre IFRA from 2021, and this current formula is not as potent. The lime, leather, and basil are still great. The oakmoss and civet are softer and doesn't project like it once did.
