Second belt

This is my second belt purchase MSF. I needed anew one because I've lost weight not because I wore the first one out. These belts are made tough. Nothing but praise for the look and quality.

Just the Right Belt for Me. Great Value. One Minor Carp.

* I wanted a belt both for everyday wear and for sports (figure skating, in particular). This belt checks all the boxes for my needs. (1) Full-grain leather for durability. (2) One-piece leather. No stitching at all to wear out. Some one-piece leather belts still have decorative stitching, which can get ratty with extended use. (3) Unfinished edges. Most of the wear comes from the buckle rubbing against the edges of the belt. Again, this local wear can cause finished edges to look ratty with extended use. (4) Just the right thickness. I need a belt that is strong and durable, but also flexible. Some heavy-duty belts are about 1/4” thick. Too much for me, since I don’t use the belt to carry anything; and I want as short a break-in as possible. This belt is about 1/8” thick. Not too thin, not too thick, just right (for me). (5) Dual-prong buckle. These are not too common. But for sports, the dual prongs are more resistant to twisting. Some dual-prong belts have two roles of holes along the entire length of the belt. Which is what I don’t want. This belt has 7 sets of holes for buckling only. Perfect for me. I think an odd number of sets of holes is the right design choice: size it to buckle up at the middle set; have the same number of sets for shorter and longer adjustment. The buckle is also a roller buckle; my personal preference and potentially less wear on the belt during buckling. * Initial Break-In. Two weeks. Not bad at all. Will improve with time. * Minor Carp. I think the quality of the buckle is not in keeping with the quality of the belt. In particular, in previous roller buckles I’ve had, the roller was fabricated from heavy-gauge seamless tubing with well-rounded edges. In this buckle, the roller is formed from light-gauge sheet metal, with a crimped seam, noticeable to the touch. One edge is OK, but the other edge has a slightly raised ridge. Over time, this roller may cause excess wear. I’ll find out. It will probably be cosmetic, rather than functional. But if it turns out to be functional, I guess I can fall back on the lifetime warranty. * Overall, a great value for the price.

I had been looking to get another belt from Main Street Forge. The Double Down fit the bill perfectly. The rugged, stylish appearance at a price you can't beat. What's not to love?!
