Lola Crocheted Oxfords and Slip-ons Crochet Pattern

This is a sweet pattern. I made a pair using white crochet cotton, I decided to make them lace-ups. Overall they turned out well. But, the front opening where you lace them up is fine for lacing, but there isn't any room to put elastic, if that's what I wanted. Maybe I need to use a smaller crochet hook or smaller crochet cotton....Thanks.
