why I chose Argali's Serac for my primary backcountry blade
I've been considering lightweight fixed-blades for the last few years and finally settled on the Argali brand. I chose the Serac over the Carbon because I thought the Serac would be better for skinning big game and all-round use. The narrower point of the Carbon would likely be somewhat better for opening the hide on the underside, the spine, or the legs, but I think the Serac's broader point will also suffice. The skeleton handle and scales seem likely to provide the best grip of any knives I've considered. I hate the way blood make the the grip so difficult for most handles. How to carry in the backcountry is the biggest open question for me. The sheath works well for neck carry but I would be nice to have an optional loop for parallel belt or strap carry. Attaching the sheath to my pack's shoulder belt with a ziptie may also work. I can also carry the knife inside my pack like I've done with my folding knife. The striking notch on the top of the blade makes it more likely that I will actually carry my ferro rod for use as a backup fire starter. The knife arrived very sharp and should hold the edge well. I was able to use my GoHunt points to get a discounted price. GoHunt also shipped the day of the order and the knife actually arrived one day before expected. Very nice!

Perfect Ultralight
Amazingly light with no sacrifice of blade cutting edge, length or stiffness. Grip ergonomics are ideal for my large hands ( size 8.5 surgical gloves ). The S35VN steel holds an edge thru the entire field dressing process. No sharpening in the middle of the job. No stupid human tricks changing out blades by head lamp while covered in elk blood ( wait… Is that my blood?! ). The Serac just works.

Great little knife
I have bigger hands and it still feels good. The blade is a nice length, the texture in the handle and jimping on the blade feel like they’ll keep a positive feel in hand even after they’re getting messy. Another 5 weeks and I should get to put it through the real test.
