Good silicone legs are as valuable as good CDC
I think legs are taken for granted by us fly tyers. Tied a beefy hares ear? Throw some legs on it! Making some foam hoppers? Strap some more legs on it ! I used to reach for my bag of legs the way a guy reaches for the bag of Cheetos after four beers and and three bad Netflix comedies. But lately (after 25 years of tying) I’ve come to really appreciate a good leg. I hold them up to the light to see how translucent they are. I smell them (yes they all have different smells) . I stretch them to see if they deform or break. Most of all I tie them onto the hook to see how they behave. These Grizzly Flutter Legs tie down nicely. They don’t have much memory or curve to them so it’s easy to get a perfectly perpendicular angle when you tighten down on them. They are tough and I know for a fact that silicone holds up much better than rubber. As for the colors and the barring patterns go, I like the root beer and black barring best. It’s just plain buggy. I also like these legs a lot in the smaller nymph size. They have even more movement.
