This is a great package for any expertise level. The beginner gets to play with a proper set, just like those used at chess tournaments, and the grandmaster gets a full-size set for analysis and study. The weighed pieces feel great. I weighed and measured the individual pieces that I received (see attached table). The whole set (including the mat) packs away tidily into the bag. Total weight of the pieces and mat in the bag is 1.2kg. The mat is silicone, which is a rubbery material. Therefore, as other reviewers have pointed out, you cannot slide the pieces like you can on a cardboard/plastic/vinyl/wooden chess board. However, it's really not that big a deal (unless you want to play bullet maybe?), and the upside is that you can fold up the mat to store or transport it without worrying about it being creased when you unpack it again. For less than £25, this is a great value package.

Wonderful design of pieces. Perfect. Silicone mat picks up dust and unable to slide pieces. Pieces 10/10. Silicone mat 4/10
