Magnetic Hourglass

Fun object!

First of all, this is not an hourglass, because the magnetic sand moves through in a minute, not an hour. However, I timed it and it does take exactly a minute - pretty cool! The sand looks cool as it accumulates at the bottom, especially at first. I was startled by the instructions that said not to place the glass directly onto the magnetic base when the sand was in the lower part already, due to the fact that the glass could shatter. Hopefully they just had to say that due to liability reasons, and the risk isn't actually that high, although I have tried to be responsible so far. Anyway, fun thing to have on the desk!

My son is a therapist who often works with children. He has this on his desk and it’s a good conversation starter.
