As a film editor, I really appreciated the storytelling potential of this footage. The subject has a strong screen presence, and the shots feel genuine rather than staged. Built by Life, that I have re-named Off the Grid, is a fantastic short film to use for student edit training. Vince is a great character who continues to surprise in his interviews. There are enough real-world problems to keep students on their toes. I use it every year as intermediate practice.
