Have to give a shout out to the makers (and to the seller!) of this stuff. I always apply Proraso before shaving with any straight razor or shavette. It makes that job much easier and pleasureful. Of course it also does just as well well if I'm using a double-edge or a more modern blade. But for me, with a straight razor, there is no other way to go. Gives the steel just a little something to glide over and provides me with an excellent shave every time.
