I was a long-time fan of FastenMaster heavy duty fasteners (FlatLOK, HeadLOK, etc). My first time around with Simpson timber screws is the beginning of a long relationship with these fasteners. They outperformed FlatLOKs to a degree I am still surprised by. They snugged a whole bunch of rough-cut hemlock multi-ply beams together like you read about. They are now the basis for my recently framed post and beam workshop.
