Finally found a comfortable chinrest
I have tried the Waves, the kreddle, the standard Guarneri’s and a couple others… and I have hated them all. I eventually carved a homemade chinrest from a block of black cherry that was OK and ended up (after whittling on it several times) being a similar shape to this Berber style. So I ordered this Berber model in rosewood and it is just right. I almost can’t believe how much easier it is to hold the violin in place without any special effort. It just says in place easily and comfortably now. The shoulder rest I use is the Pirastro Korfker model 2 and that took quite a while to get where I needed it whilst using the chinrests I didn’t really like. As soon as I put the Berber chinrest on the violin just stayed in place like I have been hoping it would for the 8 or 9 months I have been playing. It’s such a huge improvement and now I can really just focus on improving instead of fidgeting with the setup to find a comfortable spot for a while because it wouldn’t be comfortable for very long. There is a lot to be said for getting the right chinrest / shoulder rest configuration and if you have the luxury of having some string professionals near you (I do not) spend the time and money to get this right. It would be worth every penny to solve this setup stuff in month one instead fussing with it for 8 or 9 months.

It works great.
No more neck/back issues. This chin rest makes it possible to play comfortably without compromising your posture.
