Ride The Tide 2017
It was great to experience the affects of the current, challenges of the rip tides and the calmness of sitting in an eddy. Ride The Tide is a fun paddle and got to meet a lot of neat people. Thank you Olympic Outdoor Center for hosting this event.

Kayaking was fun, other stuff not so much
In terms of the kayaking itself, this event was well organized and fun. But it seemed there was more going on than I had understood when I signed up. First, before we could leave we had to stand there in a group for about 20 minutes while various people talked. Next, there was this cheesy thing about collecting playing cards at different stops along the way which to me seemed like a distraction from what I had come to do (kayaking). Last, we were supposed to wait at the end to land on shore until a Native American ceremony concluded in a canoe in front of us. This would have been okay, except for the fact that we had seen lightning multiple times and yet the organizers expected us to continue sitting out there in the water in our kayaks. I thought the leader made an unsafe decision in keeping us out in the water in that weather, and it created an awkward situation where I had to weigh my own safety against being the only one to be "disrespectful" because I wanted to get out of the water due to the lightning.
