Old Fashioned Cast Iron Waffle Iron - Original By Rome

Disappointing

I bought this to replace an aging electric waffle iron. I seasoned the Rome iron three times and have tried making waffles twice. The waffles stick to the iron and don't cook all the way through. A very disappointing experience. I'm going to try to return this product.

Wouldn’t recommend

Honestly was really excited for this, ended up hating it after 3 uses. The iron oddly doesn’t get hot enough inside to cook the waffle to crisp, but gets so hot on the outside it just smokes you out. Cleaning it is an absolute pain which I expected, not really the company’s fault, more of just the design of a waffle iron. Weight was good, it felt sturdy. Didn’t like how easily the two pieces come apart, makes it hard to check on the waffle. REALLY hated the wax they cover the iron with, it took way too long to get off. The thing also rusts in what felt like less than 10 minutes. Even after oiling it immediately after cleaning it rusted. The inside was rusting as I was removing the wax. Just really confusing why the company wouldn’t just season the pan and call it a day. Thats what lodge does and I’ve never had a complaint. Also the waffle recipe they gave as part of the instructions was so weird, I don’t really see anyone making it out at a campsite. I really was looking forward to this too, I couldn’t find any other waffle iron that makes thin crispy waffles. Too small, handle too short not sturdy, hard to clean. Design is poor.
