Radius insert chipped

I was roughing a piece of red cedar and had the radius insert chip on two sides. I have other turning tools with carbide inserts and have never had this happen. What even makes this worse was the wood was cedar, which is relatively soft, it wasn’t oak or ash. So overall I’m very disappointed.

Hard as nails black locust.

The carbide knives work like a charm even on locust.

Very happy!

I especially like using my simple coring attachment.
