Take color with you

Pros: I can take color with me as easily as I take my mechanical pencil and small Leda sketch book. Lots of hues in each color to choose from. Colors blend well. They sharpen well with the micro sharpener I use for my graphite leads and I can use enough pressure to get a thick line without breaking the lead. Cons: These are not really negatives in my view. Just things I have learned, just as I learn with any different paper or mark-making tool. Many colors look similar at first, until I make a mark with them. I am learning to identify them by eye. If I handle the leads carefully I can make a mark to check the color without placing the lead in the mechanical pencil. To avoid breakage, care is required when handling the leads. They are a little more sensitive to lateral stress than graphite leads. The cylinder the leads come in is great for transporting them, but I can't get one out with my fingers. If I slant the leads out of the cylinder partway, I can gently withdraw the lead I want to place in my pencil. The darker colors rub off onto the lighter colors in the cylinder, but these marks are removed from the light colors during sharpening, so it's not a problem.
