I was skeptical about soapnuts being effective but after reading Staying Alive in Toxic Times by Dr Jenny Goodman, I was pushed to make the switch to try and reduce our toxic load as much as possible. I’ve found these clean our clothes just as well as commercial detergent and with the addition of some lavender essential oil, they smell lovely too. I’ve always used white vinegar as a softener so this pairs well. I live in London and we have fairly hard water so we found that 6 soapnuts is good and we’re getting around 4 washes done on the same 6 soapnuts before they need to be composted.
