I'm writing this for both of the Shades of Deadly Tees I bought, just so I don't have to write it twice.
As far as I know, I'm non-indigenous, and last Christmas Iwas in Nambucca Heads with family. I believe that land is the traditional lands of the Gumbanggyir peoples, which just so happens to be where my Uncle and Cousin are from, which they discovered 2 days after Christmas. I hadn't found the store by then so I bought the Tees a week ago.
My Uncle was pretty chill about it, he spent a lot more time outside in his Country absorbing the scenery, smells, wildlife. My Cousin wasn't as into it. They said that it wasn't really their land (we grew up in the Adelaide Hills, went to a predominantly white school in a predominantly white neighbourhood) and they kind of shrugged it off.
Anyways, I bought the shirts for my Uncle and Cousin because no matter how much milk you put in a cup of tea, it's still a cup of tea. I thought that a shirt would be the best way to say; "I'm sorry for what my ancestors did, I hope you can accept who you are, just as Ihave accepted who I am," in a non-wanky way (it would just ruin it if we had some sort of Hollywood cliche "talk").
So yeah, I hope they like the shirts. I'll see them soon in July, so yay!
