For readers that love George MacDonald's works
If you love George MacDonald's novels and works like I do, you will find this book a great addition to your MacDonald repertoire. I have lived vicariously in Scotland through his novels for many years. I have longed for the views and vistas he described and have longed to travel to Scotland. This book identifies and personalizes the area of Cullen, Scotland. Michael Phillips has done so much research and has put photographs of specific areas that MacDonald describes in "MALCOLM", and "The MARQUIS OF LOSSIE". The history of MacDonald being there is still perceptible today and identifiable. The first part of the book identifies MacDonald's descriptions and there are photos to show those descriptions taken right out of "Malcolm"! There are personal letters from his wife to him and visa versa. Michael Phillips has found articles of tribute written about MacDonald and his influence both through his teaching and written works. There is a picture of MacDonald's whole family. At the end of this little treasure are maps that Judy Phillips has contributed of the specific places written in this book. So, a person who may journey to Scotland and become acquainted with MacDonald will have specific places they can explore and realize that they are actually seeing first hand and visiting the specific places that George MacDonald visited while writing "Malcolm", and become acquainted with the Sea Town and the fisher folk that still live and work there. Since this book is so specific to Cullen and "Malcolm", it may not be for everybody. But it will be a wonderful asset for anyone who would love to learn more about a specific place George MacDonald wrote and worked on his manuscripts.
