Good Choice for Younger Kids
I have been a huge fan of the standard single weave Fuji gi for many years. I have a white and a blue gi for myself, and I order white gis for all my students. My ONLY complaint about the single weave gi is that the apron tends to be too short. Otherwise, the Fuji single weave gi is perfect, and I recommend it without hesitation. But this is not about the single weave gi… Due to recent price increases, and since I am always on the lookout for savings, I decided to try the new Starter Judo gi for kids and I purchased one for a new student. The pants and the belt are simply fine, and they are what you should expect from Fuji. The jacket is thin and lightweight; similar to a karate style gi. For kids under 10-years-old, I think this is a great choice for a starter gi. It is not too heavy and bulky, and it allows them to grip properly and securely while learning. When they outgrow this gi, and for kids 10 and older, move them up to a standard single weave gi. You could also order a set to use in your dojo as extra gis for visitors and trial students, or you could use them for students to try on to verify their size for best fit.
