Highly instructive and practical exercises to develop effective strategies for bass line construction and harmonic interaction w/ band mates. Probably one of Mr. Carter’s greatest contributions to the art of jazz bass playing was his ability to direct the ensembles he played with/ a number of very key contributions. Those include 1.) harmonic interaction w/ other band mates especially other chordal/rhythm instruments such as piano or guitar. 2.) sound projection of the bass itself w/ e.g.,, the drummer’s use and touch of the bass drum in coordination w/ the bass 3.) keeping the soloists on track in terms of the form. 4.) creating as good of a workplace/job environment as possible so that you are asked to play again and again .........
