No Gi BJJ Position Escaping System by Troy Manning

A positional escape instructional focused on the techniques

Troy teaches No-Gi positional escape techniques at a brisk pace with all the required details, but without the associated theory to each escape. This is not a bad approach, particularly if you wish to focus on the technique without all the theory and background that can a make an instructional long and at times a bit tedious and difficult to watch. Obviously, there are benefits from understanding the theory, however that is not what this instructional is all about. I note that the description of this product is consistent with this approach – “Manning’s straight forward, clear, and concise instruction.” In summary, Volume 1 (38 minutes long) covers mount and side control escapes. Volume 2 (19 minutes long) covers scarf hold, north-south and knee on belly escapes. Volume 3 (20 minutes long) covers seated back and turtle escapes. The instructions provided for each technique are clear, including where to position yourself when you have finished, easily understood and where relevant, Troy teaches options or variations to the escape. The techniques are repeated from different angles and again with narration. From my perspective Troy’s instructions have sufficient detail and I think would lend themselves to being memorised as part of the learning process (i.e. key dot points). I like that some escapes are taught so that you move directly into an offensive position or a sweep and also interestingly he teaches how to counter some of the escapes. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. The total length of the instructional is 1 hour and 17 minutes long. I would recommend this instructional for people that wish to improve their positional escapes and/or their counters to positional escapes. This recommendation applies to both Gi and No-Gi players. For me this is the third Troy Manning instructional that I have bought.
